Every Unit Cleaned After Every Rental · Family-Owned Since 2008
How We Clean and Sanitize Our Rental Equipment
Parents ask us this question more than almost any other: "How do I know the bounce house is clean?" It is a fair question. Your children are climbing inside equipment that dozens of other kids have used before them. At Bouncey House Rentals, every bounce house, water slide, combo bouncer, obstacle course, and inflatable game goes through a complete cleaning and sanitation process between every single rental. Not once a week, not when it looks dirty. Every time.
We have been cleaning and maintaining commercial inflatables for 17+ years across the Greater Sacramento Area. This page walks you through our exact process so you can see what happens to your rental between the event before yours and your event. We believe transparency builds trust, and we want you to know exactly what your family is playing on when you book with Bouncey House Rentals.
Does Bouncey House Rentals clean their bounce houses between rentals?
Yes. Every bounce house, water slide, combo bouncer, obstacle course, and inflatable game from Bouncey House Rentals goes through a 5-step sanitation process after every rental: full inflation for inspection, vacuuming to remove dirt and debris, hand cleaning with commercial cleaners, sanitizing with chemicals that kill 99.9% of germs, and complete drying before the next delivery. This process has been standard practice since the company was founded in 2008 and applies to every unit in the fleet, every time it goes out.
What This Page Covers
This page details the 5-step cleaning process Bouncey House Rentals uses on every inflatable after every rental event, explains why each step matters for your family's health and safety, covers how different equipment types (bounce houses, water slides, combos, obstacle courses) are handled differently, and answers the most common sanitation questions Sacramento parents ask before booking.
What Happens to Your Rental Between Events
Every unit in our fleet goes through this exact process after every rental, without exception. This is not a summary or a marketing claim. This is the actual workflow our warehouse crew follows at our Roseville facility.
How Different Rental Types Get Cleaned
Not all inflatables are the same. Water slides collect different contaminants than dry bounce houses. Here is how we handle each type.
Bounce Houses
Standard bounce houses collect the most grass, dirt, and small debris because kids track it in on their feet and clothes. The bounce floor gets the heaviest use and the most focused cleaning. We pay extra attention to the entrance flap where dirt accumulates, the mesh windows where dust settles, and the corners where debris collects. Browse our bounce house collection to see what goes out clean to every event.
Water Slides
Water slides require additional cleaning steps because the wet environment promotes algae, mold, and organic material buildup in ways dry units do not. The slide surface, water channels, hose connections, and splash pools all receive extra attention during hand cleaning and sanitizing. We clean standing water from every channel and inspect for discoloration that could indicate mold growth. Browse our water slide collection knowing every unit has been through this process.
Combo Bouncers and Obstacle Courses
Combos and obstacle courses have more surface area, more compartments, and more places for debris to hide. Climbing walls, slide lanes, tunnels, basketball hoops, and pop-up obstacles all get individual attention. These units take longer to clean than standard bounce houses because of the added complexity, but they go through the same 5-step process without shortcuts. Browse our combo bouncers and obstacle courses.
Concession Machines and Games
Concession equipment like popcorn machines, snow cone machines, and cotton candy machines are cleaned and sanitized using food-safe cleaning solutions appropriate for surfaces that contact food. Carnival games, interactive games, and inflatable sports games are wiped down, sanitized, and inspected after every rental.
How do I know if a bounce house rental is clean?
Ask the rental company to describe their specific cleaning process before you book. A reputable company should be able to tell you exactly what they do between rentals, not just say "we clean it." The unit should be visibly clean with no dirt, stains, grass, or debris on the interior surfaces. It should not smell musty or like mildew. The vinyl should feel clean and dry to the touch, not sticky or gritty. Bouncey House Rentals uses a 5-step sanitation process on every unit after every rental: inflation for inspection, vacuuming, hand cleaning with commercial cleaners, sanitizing with chemicals that kill 99.9% of germs, and drying with a final inspection.
Equipment Cleaning Questions from Sacramento Parents
Do you clean the equipment after every rental or just periodically?
Every single rental. No exceptions. Whether the unit was used for a 2-hour backyard birthday in Natomas or a full-day school field day in Elk Grove, it goes through the complete 5-step sanitation process before the next event. This has been our standard practice since 2008.
What type of sanitizer do you use?
We use commercial-grade chemicals that kill 99.9% of germs, bacteria, and viruses. The chemicals are formulated for surfaces children will have direct skin contact with. They leave no harmful residue, no sticky coating, and no strong chemical odor on the vinyl. They are safe for children with sensitive skin and allergies.
Can I see or smell the difference between a clean and dirty bounce house?
Yes. A properly cleaned bounce house should have no visible dirt, grass, or debris on the interior surfaces. The vinyl should feel smooth and dry, not gritty or sticky. There should be no musty, mildew, or chemical smell. If a rental unit arrives at your event and does not meet these standards, that is a red flag about the company's cleaning practices. Every Bouncey House Rentals unit passes a final visual and tactile inspection before going out.
How do you prevent mold and mildew?
Mold and mildew grow in damp, enclosed environments. The number one prevention measure is never packing a wet or damp inflatable. After cleaning and sanitizing, we keep every unit fully inflated with the blower running until the entire surface is completely dry. Sacramento's dry climate helps, especially during summer months, but we follow the same drying protocol year-round regardless of weather conditions.
Do water slides require different cleaning than bounce houses?
Yes. Water slides collect additional contaminants because of the wet environment: algae, organic matter, and standing water in channels and splash pools. Our cleaning process for water slides includes flushing all water channels, inspecting for discoloration or algae buildup, and paying extra attention to the slide surface and pool areas. Read our Water Slide Safety Guide for more on water slide specific maintenance and safety.
What happens if a unit is damaged during a rental?
Damage is identified during Step 1 of our process (full inflation for inspection). Minor repairs like small seam separations or patch-worthy punctures are fixed in-house before the unit is cleared for the next rental. If the damage is more significant, the unit is pulled from the active fleet until it is fully repaired and re-inspected. We do not send out damaged equipment under any circumstances.
How should I evaluate another company's cleaning process?
Ask them to describe their exact process. "We clean it" is not an answer. A company with real standards will walk you through their steps the way we have on this page. Ask specifically: Do they clean after every rental? Do they sanitize with germ-killing chemicals? Do they fully inflate the unit for cleaning, or clean it while deflated (deflated cleaning misses most interior surfaces)? Do they dry completely before packing? Read our How to Choose a Party Rental Company guide for the full checklist.
Is your equipment safe for children with allergies or sensitive skin?
Yes. The chemicals we use for sanitizing are formulated for surfaces children touch directly and leave no harmful residue on the vinyl. If your child has specific allergies or sensitivities, call us at (916) 548-7995 before your event and we will share the specific product information so you can verify it with your pediatrician.
Where does the cleaning happen?
All cleaning and sanitation takes place at our warehouse facility in Roseville, CA. We do not clean equipment at event sites or in transit. The warehouse environment gives us the space to fully inflate every unit, the supplies for thorough hand cleaning and sanitizing, and the controlled conditions for proper drying. Every unit is cleaned, sanitized, dried, inspected, and packed at the warehouse before it goes on the delivery truck for your event.
How long does the full cleaning process take?
A standard bounce house takes 45 minutes to 1 hour for the complete 5-step process. Larger units like combo bouncers, obstacle courses, and water slides can take 1 to 2 hours because of the additional surface area and compartments. The drying step is the longest and cannot be rushed. We schedule enough turnaround time between rentals so that every unit gets the full process without shortcuts.
